These lovebirds, whose final names are yet to be determined, developed a massive fanbase after being dumped at Oakland's Lake Merritt at the beginning of the pandemic, and were eventually dubbed "Oakland's cutest couple" and given a myriad of names by their fans. However, Lake Merritt wasn't the right environment for these domestic ducks, and citizens eventually raised concerns online when the couple lost their nest due to flooding and they noticed one of them had an injured bill. They needed safety and care so Rancho volunteers rescued them. The couple was initially fostered by our friends at Funky Chicken Rescue in Vacaville, and are now at their new forever home at Rancho Compasión. Your purchase will help us care for this sweet couple and their new friends at Rancho Compasión.
How to Help the Ducks
You can help us provide care and medical attention for these two lovebirds, recently relocated from Lake Merritt in Oakland. In order for us to accommodate these two ducks, and add more in the future, we need to build a waterfowl house in which to quarantine them before we introduce them to the rest of our duck and goose family.
Our waterfowl residents (ducks & geese) at Rancho Compasion currently number 16. In order to provide the best possible and most secure home for them, we must fund the construction of a new "house" located on our small pond, designed to accommodate up to 20 waterfowl.
We hope you can consider helping us out in whatever way you can, either with a one-time donation or a recurring (monthly, quarterly, or annual) donation, to allow us to provide care and shelter for our waterfowl.
